Gamebooks

A gamebook , or gamebook , is a narrative work that, rather than being read linearly from beginning to end, offers the reader the opportunity to actively participate in the story, choosing between several possible alternatives through the use of paragraphs or numbered pages. Different readers (or the same person during a rereading) may make different choices, which will influence the development and outcome of the plot, thus affecting the depth of events. Therefore, rather than speaking of a "genre" in relation to gamebooks , it is more correct to speak of a "style." Some gamebooks also feature an element of randomness, with certain plot points that can be resolved by rolling the dice. The genre was primarily popular in the 1980s but is recently experiencing a new boom with collections of all kinds, even those aimed at a very young audience.
